3D Laser Scan of Anchor Bolster

Tech27 Systems Pvt Ltd was asked to complete a 3D laser scan of the anchor bolsters on a semi-submersible rig for a leading deepwater drilling contractor in the North Sea, in order to detect suitability for a new anchor. The goal was to produce a 3D model which showed detailed survey and measurement data that simulated proposed new anchors being held in the bolsters prior to purchase.

In addition, the client requested that we simulate the proposed new anchor being held within the bolster in a number of different settings, to find out the correct anchor setting and variances in each setting – Mud, Middle & Sand.

Solution

Multiple scans were taken whilst the rig was dry docked allowing optimal views around the bolster, both on the pontoon and quayside. Tech27 Systems Ltd successfully modeled the anchor bolster and proposed new anchor using simulation to detect any possible discrepancies prior to the new anchor being purchased.

As a result of the simulation, both the time and cost imposed has been reduced significantly, which allows for a purchasing decision to be made with zero consequences.

3D Laser Scan of a Ballast Tank

Tech27 Systems Ltd was asked to complete a 3D laser scan of a ballast tank for a drilling contractor on one of their rigs in the North Sea. The goal was to produce a 3D model which showed detailed survey and measurement data for inspection purposes. Also because of low visibility and access restrictions, it was challenging for the NDT team to complete the work on time.

Tech27 Systems Ltd successfully scanned and modelled the ballast tank showing all available data which then allowed inspection data to be accurately recorded and transferred to the 3D model for continuous review throughout its lifespan.

3D Laser Scan of Lifeboat Davits

Tech27 Systems Ltd was asked to complete a 3D laser scan of lifeboat davits on a rig for a leading deepwater drilling contractor in the North Sea, in order to comply with new safety regulations. The goal was to produce a 3D model which showed detailed survey and measurement data in order to simulate proposed new lifeboats on the davits prior to reconstruction.

Solution

Multiple scans were taken at separate sites both onshore and offshore then combined to create the final as-built model.

Tech27 Systems Ltd successfully modelled the davit structure and new regulation lifeboats using simulation to test the stress of the structure and assess what changes needed to be addressed before fabrication commenced.

As a result of the simulation, both the time and safety risk imposed has been reduced significantly due to minimal fabrication work and error on site, which allows more work to be taken in the workshop onshore.

Rig Piping System Survey & As-build

Tech27 Systems Ltd was asked to complete a large number of piping system surveys on a rig for a leading deepwater drilling contractor in the North Sea, in order to document any changes made to existing lines. The goal was to produce a report which showed detailed survey data & create up to date as-built drawings. To add to the challenge, the drawings had not been updated for several years and were hand drawn. Multiple changes have been made from the time of commissioning and not detailed in the drawings.
